John Hoffman, MD, is a professor of radiology and neurology and director of nuclear medicine in the Department of Radiology at the University of Utah. He is also director of the Molecular Imaging Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute and co-leader of the Imaging, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics Program. He holds the Willard Snow Hansen Presidential Endowed Chair in Cancer Research.

Hoffman works with research and clinical care teams at Huntsman Cancer Institute, providing his molecular imaging expertise to aid researchers in non-invasively assessing various biologic processes related to cancer and to help clinicians improve treatment for patients. Hoffman's interests include positron emission tomography (PET) and the use of imaging to assess and monitor the effects of cancer treatment, including how chemotherapy and radiation therapy affect the brain. He is also interested in using imaging to provide biologic and physiologic information to personalize more effective cancer treatment and therapy.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Colorado, Hoffman completed a surgical internship at the University of Washington in Seattle. He finished a year of training in neurosurgery and completed a neurology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle and was a resident and research fellow with the Department of Radiology, Division of Nuclear Medicine, at the UCLA School of Medicine. Before joining Huntsman Cancer Institute, Hoffman was chief of the Molecular Imaging Branch of the Cancer Imaging Program at the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health. Hoffman has held faculty appointments at Duke University and Emory University.
